Board Composition and Expectations
  • The Board shall consist of a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 15 members.
  • Members should represent key industry sectors that contribute to sports tourism and event growth in Orange County, California, including but not limited to:
    • Destination Marketing Organizations
    • Airports
    • Healthcare Providers
    • National Governing Bodies
    • Mass Transportation Authorities
    • Public Sector Leadership
    • Airlines
    • Universities and Colleges
    • Major Sports Venues
    • Financial Institutions
    • Law Offices
    • Other sectors that influence the sports tourism and events industry
  • Board members must demonstrate a commitment to the mission and goals of OCSC.
Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should meet the following qualifications:

  1. Leadership & Influence:
    • Must hold a leadership role within their organization (e.g., executive, senior management, or industry expert).
    • Ability to advocate for OCSC within their professional network.
  2. Commitment to Sports Tourism & Events:
    • Experience in sports, tourism, business development, or community engagement.
    • Interest in leveraging sports to drive economic and social impact.
  3. Willingness to Contribute:
    • Ability to commit time for quarterly board meetings and committee participation.
    • Willingness to support fundraising, sponsorship development, or advocacy efforts.
  4. Financial & Organizational Stewardship:
    • Willing to uphold fiduciary responsibilities and contribute to financial sustainability.
    • Ability to guide OCSC in compliance with non-profit governance best practices.
Board Member Responsibilities

Board members are expected to actively contribute to the success of the OCSC by:

  • Attending regular Board meetings and participating in strategic discussions.
  • Providing guidance and expertise to strengthen OCSC’s impact on sports tourism.
  • Assisting in securing sponsorships, partnerships, and funding opportunities.
  • Advocating for OCSC and its mission within their networks and industries.
  • Supporting and attending key OCSC-hosted events.
  • Upholding the integrity and governance standards of a nonprofit organization.

Commitment to the Mission

As a nonprofit organization, the OCSC Board must be composed of individuals committed to advancing the mission of enhancing Orange County’s sports tourism and economic development. Board members should actively engage in initiatives that further this goal and leverage their expertise and influence for the benefit of the community.

Interested individuals must submit the following:

  1. Completed Board Application Form (at the bottom of this webpage)
  2. Professional Resume or Bio
  3. Letter of Interest detailing:
    • Why they want to serve on the Board
    • How their expertise aligns with OCSC’s mission
    • Their vision for supporting sports tourism in Orange County
  4. Identification of which of the Three Ds (Doers, Donors, Door-Openers) they align with:
    • Doers: Those who take an active role in Board initiatives, committees, and operational support.
    • Donors: Those who contribute financially to the sustainability and growth of the organization.
    • Door-Openers: Those who leverage their networks to connect the Commission with key stakeholders, sponsors, and opportunities.

Applications will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee, and selected candidates will be invited for an interview before final appointment.

Terms & Commitment
  • Board members will serve a three-year term (renewable upon approval).
  • Members are expected to attend at least 75% of Board meetings annually.
  • Participation in at least one committee is encouraged to support organizational initiatives.
